Philip l. weiser
attorney at law
Philip L. Weiser didn’t set out to become a lawyer — his path began in an entirely different direction. After high school, he pursued a career in auto mechanics and worked in management at a dealership’s repair department. But the work felt unfulfilling. Watching police officers in action, he realized he wanted a career that allowed him to be out in the community, helping people and facing new challenges every day. That decision led to a 15-year career in law enforcement.
During his years as a police officer, Philip gained invaluable insight into how investigations are handled, how evidence is gathered, and how the justice system operates. However, he eventually realized he didn’t want to spend his life fighting people—he wanted to help them. After spending countless hours in court, he decided to take a new direction and pursue a law degree.
While attending Washburn University School of Law, Philip initially considered corporate law, but quickly found it lacked the human connection he was seeking. Drawing on his deep understanding of law enforcement and courtroom procedure, he returned to what he knew best—defending people’s rights. Today, as a criminal defense attorney and bankruptcy lawyer in Kansas, he uses his combined experience to protect clients and guide them through life’s most difficult moments.
Philip’s experience as a former police officer gives him a unique advantage when building defense strategies. He understands how law enforcement thinks, where mistakes are often made, and how to use that knowledge to defend his clients effectively. His work in bankruptcy law stems from the same desire to help—ensuring that people facing financial hardship get the fair treatment and fresh start they deserve.
Unlike many attorneys, Philip doesn’t believe a sharp suit makes a great lawyer. He prefers jeans and a t-shirt over formal wear, focusing instead on results, relationships, and real-world problem-solving. Outside the office, you’ll often find him riding one of his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, spending time with his wife and grandchildren, or relaxing with his dogs.
Education
Juris Doctor (JD) – Washburn University School of Law
Bachelor of Arts (BA) –
